I think I know the answer to this but I want to check because I just started with my DVD burner. I tried to take a six mpg recordings of some TV shows and put them on DVD. Each show was about 550mb so I should have plenty of space. However, Roxio's DVD Burner says the project takes up too much space. In fact, it will only allow around 4 files of 550mb.
I think it has something to do with the encoding. I don't know why it's encoding the mpg files since I already did that to cut commercials. But my guess is that it's trying to make them as high quality movies and then burn them to disc. Since this is the free software that came with the TDK burner I assume there isn't anyway to change this "quality" setting. I also assume the $60 version sold by Roxio allows this.
Anyway, can anyone confirm why the software won't allow this? Can anyone suggest software that will allow me to just put the files on the DVD with a simple menu? I'd like to make it readable with a regular DVD player so even my parents can operate it.

I don't use Roxio for DVD, but I'll take a guess. 6-30 minute TV shows is over 2 hours (about 2 hours and 20) minutes after commercials are removed. Some programs (like Studio 8) won't allow the bitrate to go below 3000- which limits you to 2 hours and a couple minutes on a DVD. Perhaps Roxio is the same.
