  1. Listen gang, this may sound a little stupid, but we all started somewhere... I just bought a DVD burner (Plextor 708a). I would like to put my home movies on a DVD-R disc, but they all are in AVI or MPG format. I have a few in VCD and SVCD format, but the DVD structure is different. So my question is... What do I need to do to change these formats to play on my stand alone DVD player? How do I change an AVI or MPG to play in the DVD structured format? Any answers or links to my questions would be greatly appreciated

Select one of the may guides from here to convert avi to dvd...and about the mpg, is it in mpg1 format or mpg2. If it's mpg2, then you dont need to convert...just run it through an authoring program and use something like nero to burn. Good luck.

  3. for the vcd format ones, use VCDEasy's built in tool for MPEG with RIFF header --> "TRUE" MPEG...

    And yes, use the guides.

    Hope this helps...

  4. Most capture cards capture audio to either mpeg 1 layer 2 or to pcm, and many people complain of audio not being present on the dvd when played, when in fact it is there. There are issues I don't feel like typing out about that right now

You may want to first demultiplex the audio and the video to seperate files using TMPGEnc's mpeg tools, and then converting the audio to ac3 using BeSweet and then remultiplexing with an authoring tool that supports ac3 files. DVD-Lab supports ac3 files, just an example.
There can be only 1, and once you find it let me know what it is please
