Can someone please tell me where this all started? :c)

I kept seeing in used in various posts. First, thought it was typo :cD then caught on.

A couple of weeks ago I heard it in - I think - a Scrubs episode, then after that saw an ad for Clueless and in one clip, she said it in a car scene.

Did it originate in Clueless? Or was it being used before that?

Well, wherever it started, I heard it here first. :cD As with most things.

  2. From what I gather it is American street slang popular with the rap and hip hop community. Means I cocked up or made a mistake.

Thanks Craig. I did get the meaning of it and knew it was American. I am American. :c)

But since I've been living here (UK) 4+ years, I figured it got started some time after I moved away. Just wondered where it first started.

What threw me was the commercial I saw advertising Clueless airing. That movie was released way before I moved, and yet I only started seeing "my bad" used pretty recently.

    Gees,

As you already know, it slang for saying you messed up or even a different way of apologizing. As for when it originated, I dont think there is really any way of finding that out, for the simple fact that it is "slang".

    Thanks, Slick & Flay :c)

Just wondering why it took so long to get used so frequently just lately.

Just bothers me when I can't find the answer to something. :cD

    Oh well. :c*

Before I die, I also HAVE to find out..... why yawns are contagious! :cD

Even scientists don't know. I'll let the "my bad" slide, but the yawn thing will haunt me forever. :cD

presumably it's the same reason that you vomit if someone near you vomits?

    LOL :c) maybe... but that may be more because the smell ends up making you sick too. :cP..;

Just try not yawn when someone else does. It's nearly impossible. I know it's got to be psychological, but I just can't figure out why????

You don't cough just because someone else does, or hiccup...

    The search continues. :c)

It's only if I smell it that I'll vomit, the sight and sounds it doesn't effect me.

Slang is retarded. The day I use something like "my bad" or "bling bling" is the day I give my friends permission to put me out of my misery.

I agree...to an extent. I use slang at times because I dont feel like saying the entire thing. Overall, most slang is stupid...but not all.

I think the most annoying thing is when kids use 'Z' to replace 'S' in their words when typing/writing. WTF is that all about?

Or when they add random letters to existing words. "Laters" is not a damned word.

Or inversely, when they drop random latters. "Late" is NOT the shorthand form or "later".

Or worst yet, when they customize their own name into slang. No, not nicknames, they make it slang.

And don't even get me started on ebonics.

  18. dayom. lordsmurf be layin' da smack down on dem mofo's that treat da word like whack!

What bothers me is people who use the word axe in place of ask. "Let me axe you something." It sounds like they want to chop you up into litle pieces.

I too love WTF as we have meetings in work called WTL ( Work Time Learning ) that I have renamed to WTF - only one other person knows what WTF stands for.

The one I like that is a modified version of "WTF" is "WTF on a stick".
