I have a 200gig Western Dig. drive using a ATA pci card (came with drive). My system (WinXP Pro) says that I have used up 129gig but I calculated all the files on the drive to only equal around 30gigs?? I also checked for hidden files but there are none. So why is this?? I have run all the disc check tool and no problems.
I have 3 drives:
Drives C: & D: EIDE 40gig (Partitioned; My documents and system files)
Drive E: EIDE 80gig (Music and pictures)
Drive H: ATA PCI 200gig (Video files only)

If you haven't tried it: Control panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Storage>Disk Management. This will show your partitions. It's a part of XP that has helped me in the past. You may have a partition problem. Other than that, I don't know.

You should check your pci card bios to make sure that it is recognizing the the drive is 200 gigs. I had a problem with the pci card not recognizing the actual size of the drive. If the card is not recognizing the drive. Uninstall the card and reinstall it and see what happens to it.

The disc manager shows it as 186Gb unpartitioned which is correct. Also when booting up it detects the drive through the PCI card "Promise technologies" as also 186Gb. So everything seems to look good. So what is going on??? I looked into the bios but didn't see anything, anyway it shows up correct when booting. Could this be some WinXp disc limitation? The drive works fine except the for the missing 100gigs.

Could it be as simple as some program protecting deleted files? Something like Norton Unerase wizard? The files would not show in explorer, but the space is still flagged as being used.
I remember once I did a ghost backup and the resulting file was larger than the combined amount of my system. It turned out that was the reason. Ghost also backed up all those deleted files because I had not cleaned out the cache yet."A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct."

Solarjetman, You Rule!! My Norton Recycle Bin had over 50gig protected in it. So now Im only missing 40gig somewhere. I also need to figure out how to configure Norton to not do this anymore. I will keep looking for the rest.
