  1. Hello

I am new to DVD backing up and have a couple of questions. I am able to back up to DVD+RW/R but the +R is the only one that I can play in 3 different players. I have the Norcent DP 316, Apex 1100W and Sanyo 360. I have read that 2 of these will play DVD+R but mine won't. Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks
    Adam

  2. Quite possibly, but you would need to give details on your backing up process before anyone could tell you if you were doing anything wrong.

  3. Oh Yes sorry.

I back up to hard drive with DVD Decrypter. The mode I use is file. Then after all is well with the rip I shrink in DVD Shrink. After that 2 hour long process I create a Image file with Nero 5. Then I burn with DVD Decrypter. I am doing everything the guide says. I have a Buslink DVD+R/W DVD Burner. If you need anymore info I will be happy to post.

    Thanks
    Adam

    Adam,
    1) Your messaage seems a bit unclear to me. Did you mean that the +RW won't play? This could be a media issue. What media are you using? Some players are fussy with different brands.
    2) The method that you are using is a bit more painfull and time consuming than is usually necessary. You might want to check out these guides by Denis (A.K.A. ddlooping) http://dvdshrink.info/guides.php
    3) It also sounds as if maybe you are ripping with your burner? If so burners are typically locked at a 2X rip speed. It would be a good idea to invest in a dvd rom drive for 2 reasons. Rip speeds are much higher, and you will extend the life of your burner. Lite On dvd rom drives seem to be a favorite here and are ~ $35 on pricewatch.com.

With the guides that I have suggested I typically Rip and Burn a movie on a 1.3 Ghz cpu in about an hour with 4x media. sorry for getting off the topic, but i would suggest maybe trying a different media. What version of Nero 5 are you using? The newest one is 5.5.10.50. I would suggest an update. This is the one I use and it works great.

    Regards,
    Alan

Even if you have everything right, a lot of DVD players can't handle RW disks. Out of three I've got, all will play DVD-R disks but only one (a Sony) will play DVD-RW.

Check the players compatibility chart on the left for yours.

  6. I am sorry I had a typo.

The +RW is the only one that will work. It is the memorex brand. The DVD+R's are Sony.
