  1. I did netflix for a year and a half. $20 for 5 movies then they lowered it to 4 then wanted to jack me up to $25 so went to 3 movies for $20. I cancelled about 6 months ago. Anyone used rentmydvd yet?

What is their turn around time?
With netflix it took a over a week or week and a half till they registered the dvds I sent back. So it was like a 2 week or 2 and a half week turnaround time. (sent one dvd back till I got a new dvd).

Netflix service slowed down considerably as prices went up -- not acceptable. The good thing about them is they have a fairly large number of copies per title, which is a bonus for popular films. They dont have a huge selection of films outside the mainstream -- a negative.

I started using DVDOvernight, a service that isnt overnight, but is a reasonable alternative seeing as its non-subscription, which I now prefer. They also rent porn as well as regular movies, so you dont have to utilize an all-porn site for porn and an all-general film site for regular stuff. The turn-around time between ordering and receiving and returning films is roughly equal to Netflix.

I havent used Rentmydvd yet. What is their model like? What is selection and service like?

  3. i went from netflix to rentmydvd and i like it much better. it only takes 2 to 3 days to send one back and they ship one the same day they receive it. this month so far i have gotten 13 dvd's. i pay 23 dollars a month for 4 dvd's out at once. There selection is not as great as netflix but netflix would never send the movies they did have that were on my list.

  4. Rentmydvd is going downhill fast... probably faster than Netflix went down. They used to be good but now practically everything is out of stock except crap titles. Turn around used to be good, I'd send mine back on Monday, they'd get them on Wednesday, and I'd have new ones back by Friday or Saturday at the latest.

Nowadays, I send back on Monday, they check in on Thursday, and I don't see the next one until Monday. Maybe its the post office, but it went from consistant 2 day turnaround to minimum 3 day turnaround, sometimes 4. But its the selection problems that really irk me. For example, here is my current wishlist, you can use this to base whether you think this is too many out of stocks or not. I've been a member for 4 months so far and some of these titles have been on my wishlist since day one (the top 4). I'm actually thinking about switching over to netflix. Anyone currently with netflix, is your wishlist as out of stock as mine?

  5. ok well I'm gonna try rentmydvd it looks like. $23 for 4 movies out at a time compared to netflix $23 for only 3 movies out at a time.
#1 reason I quit netflix was I never got stuff on my wishlist. So I guess they're both screwed. Well before I join I'm gonna to go through the $20 30dvds (1 dvd/day) at blockbuster. Sucks going there everyday though.
Bottomline is join rentmydvd if you like watching dvds (but nothing in the new releases unless you got inside connections)
