AS ffmpegx needs a certain version of mplayer is there a problem if I get the newest MPlayer v1.0pre1 source and try to compile it on Mac OS X?
Where does ffmpegx put the mplayer stuff?

  2. You should use the version indicated in the installer. Newer or older versions may not work. The mplayer binary is installed in /usr/bin

Would it be possible/practical to put the mplayer that ffmpegx needs somewhere else? So that we can use the latest and greatest to *watch* movies?

  4. If you use Mplayer OSX to watch movies, then the mplayer binary is read from the application package itself and not from /usr/bin.

  5. How do I tell if I am using the corerct version of mplayer? When I try to encode something, I get an error saying "this version of mplayer is too old". How can i dowload the latest version of ffmpeg and put all the files where needed, without reinstalling ffmpeg? I'd hate to do that, because ffmpeg has been quirky for me, it works some times, but some functions it just won't do. It's above my level to be able to troubleshoot it.

  6. If your question is how to install ffmpegX, then follow directions here

  7. Thanks,
The question really is how do I tell if I have the correct version of mplayer, due to the error emssage I receive of mplayer being too old. How can I tell which version I have? ffmpeg does not give you the option to reinstall one of those 3 files after the initial install.

    thanks

  8. The correct version is the one downloaded from the links indicated on the install page. If you're not sure which version you have, download and install again.
