  1. I want to get the E50, after much reading this seems like my machine, I guess the draw back if that I would like to be able to put more than 1 hour on a dvd without the quality going down the tubes. Does any of the new machines record better quality at lower speeds. I would like to be able to record 2 or 3 hours on a dvd without it looking like a VCD.

  4. Hello,
to expand a bit on what the others are saying, it also depends on what you are recording. Using the SP (2 hour/DVD-R) mode, I have dubbed tx shows and VHS tapes, and they come out very good quality. Football, however, doesn't look good - am now trying in XP (1 hour) mode. In the end, it depends on how much is changing from frame to frame - the lower bitrates just can't do a very good job.

    cheers,
    mike
