I just purchased the new plextor 708 and would like recommendations on the brand of blanks I should use. I am a newbie at this so all help most appreciated. Thank you.

I'd say - find out what type of media your DVD player can handle (e.g. +R or -R) and if you have just a few DVDs to back up, then get 'better' quality and 'more expensive' media. If you need to 'back up' 100s of DVDs, then go with cheper but proved to be of decent quality disks.
Myself, I'm using Memorex -R and Maxell -R disks that proved to be of good quality and a bit cheaper than +R. But then again, I never tested my Panasonic RV32 with +R media (thou it plays +RW disks I use for testing and as a temp copies, perfectly). -
Thank you for the reply. My plextor will play R+$- and RW+-. Since most backups already have to be compressed I would like recommendatios on best quality video and audio quality. Thanks.
