I have the NEC and like it. However I've never owned the pioneer so there is no way for me to determine which is best.

i recently bought teac50d wich is pioneer a06 inside.It rules!No coasters and it writes at cheap media with no problems at all.Also it is rumored tha pioneer has better firmware than teac so you should expect even better results with a pioneer.

I have the NEC 1300a with the original firmware v1.05. I have had some trouble with Memorex -R 1x and -R 4x E3Works. I understand that these problems could be resolved with a firmware upgrade.

If you don't mind may I offer one piece of advice: I would not count any endorcements of a particular model that doesn't include some form of substantiation explaining why model "A" is better than model "B". With the exception of a few individuals, it's unlikely that most people have used both writers and would be in a position to make comparisons. It would probably be better to ask what features do you like or what problems have you had with this or that model?

Which firmware solves that issue? I bought the EXACT same types of medias, and of course neither of them work. I bought the 25 pack of -R 4x E3Works and the code is Leadtek01 or something like that and I read somewhere that it is supported but it doesn't seem to work with mine.
