  1. I am totally confused about the DVD+r and the DVD-R. I tried putting my mums wedding on dvd+rw, it worked so i put it on the DVD+r and it was ok, but when i put it in my mums it jittered and had glitches every now and again. What is firmware, do i need to update???? cheers for help SasArchiver

  3. You should try to stick with DVD-R if you want it to play back properly. It is the most compatable format and the only one recognised by the official DVD Forum. It will allow you to have the least amount of playback problems, and will give you the widest capability among DVD players today.

    Jittering and glitches are usually more of a sign of poor media quality (or even with good media there are some DVD burners and/or players that just don't like it). In my experience if there's a compatibility issue with the + format it usually takes the form of the player not recognizing the disc at all. Once the player recognizes the disk, then you are down to the same kinds of compatibility problems that can plague -R media as well. I would try a different brand of media if you can, or try some -R media if your writer can do both. TDK, Maxell, and Fujifilm (especially if it's Made in Japan) are some of the better and more consistent retail brands for both the - and + formats. Updating your firmware is a great idea too. I would try that first before buying new media.

  6. BOBK, i put it in my mums DVD player, what did you think.......Ive been away so ive not had time to look here. So updating firmware is recommened? its just i heard you cant change it back??? The DVD+R i got with the DVD writer was an unbranded type media. So you recon that better quality media will work and dvd-r is the best used????
