  1. i guess my topic just about says it all. when convering to an mpg2 format (to burn to dvd+r's) is it normal for my video to be of higher quality than my PCM wav audio?

  2. Depending upon your encoding settings - either CBR or your average VBR bitrate - your situation is possible. PCM files are rather large, 1536 kbps if I remember correctly.

You may be better off using Layer II audio, or DD AC3 audio if you have an encoder. Two-channel AC3 tracks can be between 5 to 12 times smaller than PCM audio tracks, albeit at varying degrees of perceptible lossiness.

You can also have higher bitrates with AC3 audio, I think you can only hold about 2 hrs of video @ 3.2 mbps with a PCM audio track on a disk.

No it's not normal. You should investigate further.
However your topic and your mesage aren't consistent.
What do you exactly mean by quality ?

The audio should be smaller that the video. Obviously.

  4. He probably means size, and his video file can be larger if it is in fact PCM audio and his video bitrate is VERY low.
