Hi
I just burnt my first dvd-r of this movie. How good did it turn out. I use dvd shrink 2.3 and Nero Express and compressed it at Level 9. I used still pictures for the menu and extras and removed the subpictures I didnt want.
It was 8Gb but I compressed it to 4.34 Gb to fit on one disc.

For epic movies like LOTR you're better off 2 splitting it into 2 disks. Why would anyone want to watch a great movie like that with crappy quality is beyond me.

The quality is PERFECT. The only difference between the ORIGINAL and DVD-R COPY is the beginning of the dvd as I put it in still picture format. It just goes a little slower. The movie quality and sound itself is identical to the original.
I will continue to burn movies as this one turned out perfect. -
if it was perfect -we wouldnt have put it on 2 dvd in the first place ..

Well, mine was perfect. I'm only talking about the movie. I didn't bother with the 2nd disc which is the extras disc.
The movie turned out perfect. I tried on my computer and played it on my dvd player in my living room and it was awesome. -
One disc is better, as its easier to re-backup should you need it. (Not a million times, obivously)

When I backed up my copy, all I used was one disc. I am satisfied with the results.
dabwee, Happy burning.

Mine was perfect quality, how did yours turn out?
Did you use the dvd shrink 2.3 method from tools section and if so did you compress at level 9? -
Who cares the 4 hour 5 disc version will be here in a couple of months.

Who cares about the 30 disc version thats coming out?
3 hours is enough to watch of this movie, let alone 50 hours.

I agree, I used DVD Shrink 3.0 beta 5 for this movie and it turns out better than v2.3. All thanks to 'Deep Analysis'
-
I dont need to use"DVD Shrink 3.0 beta 5" because version 2.3 made mine identical to the original movie and there was nothing wrong with it. Plus version 3.0 beta 5 isnt as good and doesn't have as many options.

OK I just watched the copy I burned the otherday.
Almost Perfect! I say almost only because there has to be some difference, but I watched extremely close and never saw anything wrong at all!
Crystal Clear!
Might vary by TV??? I don't have a 51" to test on yet
3 hour movie took 17 hours to encode with 3 pass vbr in cce and I got p3 with 512mb ram.
Not intended, really, but you know what they say, PUNS HAPPEN
That was possibly WAY to long! I have a 1700xp with 1 gig ddr, but I think the big difference is not the system but the 3 pass! And I used DVDshrink3 beta5 with the defaults! NOT deep analisys either.
I did complete backup, (maybe removed any extra langauges) I normally do if there are any. Took about 30 minutes to 45 minutes total, I lost track! Same with FellowShip Of the Ring! Was fast and perfect!
Even the kid and wife say they can't tell the difference.
I never rip disk two just for extra's! At least not so far, I just started a few days ago riping, mostley I am doing captures and authoring.
Still learning that! Though I backed up about 10 of my DVD's in the last few days now. All as good as the original as far as I can tell.

I used Ver 2.3 once and it worked great for me also. But 3 Beta5 is every bit as good and probably even better! And it does have options! Like if you want to manually adjust your compresion you can! Click ratio and slide bar and drag side to side! I missed that part the first time I used it too, till I was told about it. Probly better than choosing a level!
Anyway doesn't matter which you use long as you get the results you want! But since it's free might as well have both! That's somethingelse I LIKE about DVDshrink, it does not install into windows and it is a small program, so it's easy to keep two versions at the same time and NO conflicts
Can use either at anytime! -
They come out with the extended versions in November. Fellowship had over 30 min extra in the movie. Two Towers will have almost 45 min and 2 discs of special features.
-
I can't agree with anyone that says v2.3 does a movie as good as v3.0
I have done movies that are 30 minutes shorter in length than another and the shorter one looks noticeably worse than the longer one done with v3.0
That's with all settings in both versions set to give the highest quality, and with 1 audio and subtitle track with the audio tracks having the same bitrate.
