  1. i got a bunch of AC3 movie i would like to convert to vcd or dvd, and to do so i use TMPGENC but tmpgenc doesn not like AC3 audio files so what i usually do is extract the audio file from the avi and save as wav ( PCM signed 16 bit, Stereo ) in goldwave then use the avi as video and the new WAV as audio in tmpgenc, and then convert to mpg. WORKS great but........

now i would like to extract the audio in the same way but instead of saving it as wav ( PCM signed 16 bit, Stereo ) i would like to save as ( AC-3 ACM decompressor 48,000 Hz , 6 channel ) .

but the problem i get is this error :
" No codec is available to encode or decode the audio format "

but ive installed ac3 encoder and decoders / AC3 filters / LAme codecs
and all i can think of !!!

if any one else has had this problem and can help me please write back

    thanx

  2. If I undertsand you correctly, you simply want to preserve the already existing Ac3 audio in your avi's. If this is correct the solution is simple. Open your avi in virtualdub, select audio->direct stream copy, then file->save wav. Virtualdub will save out the audio stream into a file called xxx.wav. This will actually be the ac3 audio from the avi, but with a wav header. This can be fixed by using ac3fix.exe. Place this in the same folder as your xxx.wav file, open a command window and Change directory to the folder where xxx.wav is stored. Then type ac3fix xxx.wav xxx.ac3. You will now have a valid ac3 audio file for later use.

    Hope this helps.
