  1. I've burned a few things via my PC's NEC1300 recorder to DVD+R and I'm close to finally getting a stand alone recorder, I prefer Panasonics, but need to know if someone has first hand knowledge as to whether or not any of the Panny models PLAY DVD+R.

The Philips will play both formats(+/-) and it's got a DVI input and comonent in as well so it's my other choice.

Looking to buy online this weekend so any help is appreciated

    Thanks for the help.

The data base has no opinion.

    This may help:

Or this as it relates to Panasonic:

Really? When I read the comments on what users feel about their items, you mean those are not really opinions? What are they then?

I have NO first-hand experience with the DMR-E50 but my Panas RV32 plays DVD+RW and I just assume it'd play DVD+R as well. I'll then assume the DMR-E50 will play DVD+R too.

Panas RV32's manual says it'll play DVD-R and doesn't mention DVD+R at all, so does the DMR-E50's.

If you have access to +R burner, make a disk and take it to the store to test it out, there won't be any better 'first-hand' experience than that.

Tommy -- there is no reports whatsoever on the DMR-E50 in the database, not just an opinion, you didn't check the link.

  9. Yes my E-80 has and did tonight- it has played burned discs from the 985 -no problem- however I cannot vouch for other dvd+ recorders - the 985 does seem to have great compatibility.

I have only tried one +R disc so far and my E30 will not play it at all. In fact it gives me a U11 error. The definition for this error is that the disc is either scratched or has smudges on it, but the disc I tried had neither. I even tried running a cleaner and still the same U11 error. Never had any problem recording to or playing back -R media on the E30 though. My recommendation is to use -R media if you want to play back recordable DVD's burned on your computer. Especially since the NEC 1300 is listed as a dual format burner and you have that capability. Also it does seem to look like Panasonic Stand Alone DVD Recorders are very picky when it comes to playing +R media. Just my two cents!

  11. Thanks for all the input folks...

I went to a local A/V store who had the E80 and 50 hooked up and I brought in a few burned +R's and the Panny wouldn't play any of them.

Because I have the NEC 1300a and have burned a few +R movies already, I decided to get the Philips DVDR75 ..it played my -R's just fine too (ok start the booing)

I got it from OneCall at a very competitive price and hooked it up last night..this weekend I will begin burning. One thing that also swayed me finally was have the DVI input.

I guess I can always copy the +R to a -R if a friend needs a copy of what I made.. using my NEC.

I love this forum for getting info on burning on my PC so I'll keep browsing here if I'm still welcome after announcing my latest purchase.

  14. My DMR-E50K and my DMR-E80H would NOT play ANY DVD+R or +RW discs but my DVD-S55S would play +R, +RW, -R, -RW, VCD, CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD-RAM but no luck with SVCD on either the player or the recorders

I have heard from some people that the Panasonic DMR-HS2 would play +R and +RW discs if it were created from standalone DVD recorders such as the ones made by Philips.

This is probably due to the bitsetting functionality of the Philips machines, which can set the book type to DVD-ROM for better compatibility.
