  1. my apologies firsthand in case this topic has been covered. i only have internet access at the local library for a limited time and thru my searches to the forum so far haven't found my topic.
    anyway..
i was wondering since my G4 powerbook dvd player has the ability to play both pal and ntsc discs but says you can only switch between them 4 times is there a way to disable that limitation?
anyone have any experience, suggestions for hack this?
    thanks

thats a link directly to a applicatoin for download.

you will have to put in a disk and save it to it, if its not too large. Even on a library pc, you probably can do that, unless they've removed the floppy drive!

As long as the DVDs are all from the same region, you won't need to change DVD Player's region, and won't have to worry about the 5 change limit. If they are from different regions, you can try to find some RPC-1 region-free firmware for your DVD drive, so that you can change regions as many times as you want, or rip them to your HD using OSEx, removing the region code. PAL and NTSC DVDs should play fine, but it's the region that you've gotta watch for.

  8. ok so i spent some time going over post on the rpc1 forum and it seems anyone who has tried to get rid of the region free limitations of the mac dvd drive have had lots of problems as a result. most commonly the drive no longer working.
so my question is what application is that a link for tgpo? can you get a bit detailed. i'd like to know what i'm installing because i can't afford to mess up my drive. i'll just go out and buy a region-free dvd player. it'll be a lot cheaper than anything mac.
    thankyou

Here is the official site for the program. It'll tell you all about it. It's the last one on the list, but you may wanna also look at the other files. Perhaps they could also be of some help.

DVD Reset is a program to reset the region change counter for your DVD drive, effectively giving you unlimited changes (supposedly). It's unsupported, and I have no idea what drives it works with, if it works at all. I've installed RPC-1 firmware on a TiBook 400 MHz, and it worked fine, but I was very careful to follow the instructions exactly. If you don't want to mess with that stuff and can't afford to lose your drive, I would suggest using OSEx to extract the DVDs to your hard drive and remove the region code before DVD Player has a chance to launch and see that you need to change regions to play the DVD. OSEx should be able to rip DVDs from all regions and disable the region limitation. You can get it here: http://www.cs.buffalo.edu/~afaversa/.

  11. Get VLC! This program will completely replace the Apple DVD player for use with DVD backup too!
:)-The box said "Windoze 98 or better," so I bought a mac. (a quote stolen from someone who, in turn, stole it from someone else)-:)
