Ok, I created a slide show using Memories on TV using the guide on this website. Very useful....except when it gets to the part about encoding using TMpgenc (whatever that is).
Where do I find this application(?). I tried going to TMPgenc.net and downloading their freeware, but it does not seem to be what Memories on TV is looking for (a .exe).
Help!
thanks,
Allen

The link g_shocker is referring to is in your post. Hover your mouse over the word TMPGEnc and the cursor turns into a hand with a finger pointing. This, along with the fact that the word color is red, indicates that this is a link to somewhere else. Just click on the word and it will take to the spot where you can find TMPGEnc.
I just checked the link and it is down. I guess the site is still recovering from the server changeover. The benefit of this link is that it also contains links to comments about this program. If you are in a hurry, then try this link:

Yes, I knew that. The problem is that I did download and install the application from Pegasus, but using the Memories on TV guide from this website it directs the user to use TTMPgenc to encode the file for use on a DVD. For some reason Memories on TV (the evaluation version) would not recognize the installed TMPgenc as an executuable (.exe).
I therefore figured that I must have the wrong application, or installed it improperly.
What am I doing wrong?
thanks,

I'm not familiar with Memories on TV; but I'm assuming it generates .avi files. If that is the case, they must be encoded to the proper format for whatever your final product is, DVD, VCD, SVCD, etc. If you go to the TMPGEnc link on this site by clicking on the word, there are several dozen guides that walk you through generating about anything TMPGEnc is capable of.
If Memories on TV produces an .avi file, then you simply run tmpgenc separately and specify that file as input. That's to encode it to the proper format. Then you have to burn it to a DVD, VCD, SVCD, etc. Does Memories on TV burn the result or are you planning on using something else like Nero? If Memories burns then perhaps there is a configuration setting that must be set to tell it where you installed tmpgenc.
Maybe a short procedure of the steps you are taking may help to understand what you're trying to do. TMPGEnc is usually a standalone encoder that's run after the source files are editted and ready to be encoded.
PS, I created a slideshow with music and motion menus with a program called MyDVD by Sonic. It compiled source assets, encoded them and burned them to DVD all in one package. But I have made simple VCDs using a video editor, TMPGEnc, and VCDEasy to burn. There are so many ways to get to what you want. It's hard to spell out any particular method. -
Obiron,
Memories on TV is an application that was recommeded (www.picturetotv.com) to me because I want to create not only slide shows, but videos to play via DVD. My DVD player (Sony S530D) will not play VCDs.
I downloaded the demo, and used the guide from this website (https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/176635.php) to walk me thru it. All went well until the part about encoding using a seperate application TMPgenc. I found a link to Pegasus.com and downloaded the application. Only thing is that it doesn't work. Memories doesn't recongnize it as an .exe. So now I am stuck...again.
Clearly I am a rank beginner. What I am having a lot of trouble finding is some clear direction of what to do. Somehow I would love to find an application or two that will allow me to easily create slide shows with video clips and/or videos without being an expert. At least I hope that is possible.
thanks for your help in advance.

Why don't you PERSONALLY run TMPGenc instead of
expecting Memories on TV to do it
Edit: Never mind this is a quote from the memories on TV description
You can elect to use TMPGEnc to do the encoding if you wish in lieu of using their mpeg encoder.
Edit again: Did you INSTALL TMPGenc ?
the EXE should be in C:\program files\pegasus\tmpgenc\ -
Foo,
I would run it if Memories to TV would allow it.
Also, I installed TMPgenc plus from pegasus and there doesn't seem to be an exectuable......clearly I am doing something wrong.
A direct link to where the executable is would be appreciated.

No, what he means is run tmpgenc *by itself* WITHOUT using Memories to TV. Shut down Memories to TV and launch tmpgenc buy itself and use it to process the files created by Memories on TV.
Just because the files were created by Memories on TV doesn't mean you have to run any program that touches these files through Memories on TV. -
I have the program and love it. At the moment my video computer is busy but when it is done I will be happy to help you with it. I can start Memories on TV and let you know how I have it set up and we can figure out where you are going wrong.

Or I'll just post here in about a half hour or so.
(Memories on TV auto finds your Tmpgenc but as I recall it didn't work for me untill I used the browse button and showed it the file it had allready found. A bug I guess. Tmpgenc is wherever you put it. It doesn't install itself in your Programs folder or anything. It's just there.) -
Ok, I just looked at the program. You need to push the burn button that is one of the buttons just below the large window. Then hit "advanced settings". Then under mpeg encoder choose Tmpgenc and use the set button to show it where you put Tmpgenc). If you don't know where you put it use your computers search function to look for Tmpgenc.exe.
If you did the above and Memories on TV doesn't accept Tmpgenc.exe then I would guess Tmpgenc is corrupt. Try to open it and see if it works
Let me know what happens -
Another option for you.
Ulead DVD Pictureshow 2 will do that for you quite nicely
create photo slideshow with background music
add video footage
create menu
Burns , Create image file or DVD folder
Does VCD, SVCD and DVD -
Folks,
Thanks very much for all the advice. I did download the free version and installed it; unfortunately, when I pointed the browse button in Memories to it, it didn't recognize it as an executable. So, I uninstalled it and tried the process over again....same result, and same result with TMPgenc plus. Could it be that it won't work with the demo? The major issue is that I cannot encode the darn file when I finish it....the demo does not include an embedded encoder either. Suggestions?
Sifaga, is the quality of output of Moviefactory2 equal to that of Memories?
The bottom line with all this, is that I am seeking an application that will allow me to create slide show with embedded video and burn them to DVDs, as well as create videos only......is this one or two different packages? Which ones?
Again, thanks very much and sorry about the being the ultimate newbie,

when I pointed the browse button in Memories to it, it didn't recognize it as an executable
From The Memories On TV site:
Try out MemoriesOnTV before you buy! We are offering MemoriesOnTV free for evaluation. There is no time limitation, and the unregistered version is fully functional (including disc burning), but will print the words "EVALUATION COPY" on all created videos. After registration, the words will no longer be printed on subsequent videos. -
Presto,
What I mean is that while going thru Memories and creating a slide show, one of the last steps is to burn. On the menu on the right side is an 'advance' button. An additional menu pops up; one of the radio buttons calls for an embedded encoder (which the demo does not have) and the one below has the option of browsing for another installed on my machine.
When I browse over to where the Pegasus free version is installed (and I did do a .exe search and the search engine found that application), I point it to that file. Memories will not recognize it as a TMPceng encoder. Effort is over......I read the same note that you posted, but from where I am sitting, it will not work. Its probably pilot error, but I sure wish I could find what I am doing wrong.
I also just tried the Movie Factory2 demo, and perhaps I am thick, but I can find no way to embed a video clip into a slide show....at least on the demo.
Thanks for the help,

Memories will not recognize it as a TMPceng encoder
I really love Memories On TV and think you will too so don't give up yet. I'm going to download the trial onto my secondary computer and see if it acts any differently from the full version. -
I think I may have just figured out what was happening. I had not downloaded the Memories encoder and installed it. Once I did that it recognized the Pegasus version. My goof or missing that small detail.
I am in the process of creating a test slide show as we speak to see if it will burn.
I still have not found a way to add a video clip, though.....any suggestions?
Allen
Believe it or not, it won't write to my DVD+R media. For some reason it doesn't recognize that media is in there......is there some setting I missed? -
I had no trouble setting up Tmpgenc inside Memories on TV on a computer without their mpg encoder. I still don't know what you mean when you say Memories wouldn't recognize Tmpgenc.exe
-
Presto,
What I meant is that Memories would not let me even choose to produce a DVD without a TMPgenc plug in....either theirs or another. Once I downloaded and installed theirs, it allowed me to get another.
On another note, I clearly did something wrong making my test DVD. It would not run on either my Sony S530D player or the PC!
Now what?
There must be some settings or something that I missed or messed up.
Any suggestions? -
I haven't let memories burn the DVD yet. I just made a slide show and output it to DVD compliant mpg and then added it to a DVD I was making with Tmpgenc DVD author.
Memories isn't very clear about how to output mpg. I think I let it output separate audio and video files and then used Tmpgenc to mux them. It seems like Memories should be able to just put out mpg but I'm not sure how to make it do that. No big deal. The extra step with Tmpgenc only takes a moment.
If you want Memories to make the DVD and the DVD won't play the first step would be to look at the disk and see what files are on it. Is there an ifo file? Is there a vob? Can you play the .vob with media player? -
I will give that a try......
Again, I appreciate you taking the time walking me thru this.

Eureka! It worked! I am psyched!
Clearly, DVD+R will not work on my system. I bought DVD-R, used Memories on TV to create, TMPGenc to encode and Memories to burn the DVD, and it actually worked. One issue I did notice is the size of the image is a bit too large for the TV; it cuts off all four sides a bit.
I also need to figure out how to master the panning...
Anyhow, thanks to all who helped out.
Next project is to find the best way to convert VHS tapes to edited DVDs.
It seems that capturing may best be done with Ulead VideoFactory, Encodeing with TMPGenc, authoring with TMPGenc DVD Author, and burning with ???
