  1. may not work for every one but brought back to life by reading a post on here my 104 and someone elses 6 months later unscrewed 6 screws on side of writer got cd cleaning fluid
    scrubbed laser works fine now u would not believe the amount of crap that came of the laser

    Seriously, I work with optical media and I see more optical blocks fail through mechanical faults than ever need cleaning.

    If you're going to try this, make sure you use high grade alcohol for cleaning the lens which will not leave residue, and go in a circular motion from the inside out. Only apply enough pressure to make the lens wobble - do NOT force it down into the optical block !

    Don't use cotton buds either, they tend to leave fibres all over the place. Use the proper chamis sticks designed for the purpose.

    And say good bye to your warranty, too.
