  1. Hi guys,
I just recently got a DVD writer (sooo proud) and have converted my first DivX movies to DVD. I've done SVCDs for quite a while now and eventually got quite experienced.

Thus my SVCDs were very nice after a while, but now I obviously convert to DVDs... I use TMPGEnc by the way. I always use (and always have used) the wizard.

I figured that the quality deficites I had with SVCD would disappear with my DVDs. However, now that I have started using DVDs the quality is soooo much worse I get TONS of macroblocks... It's not even the blocks that only occur in high motion scenes, that bother me - I even get blocks when there's just a black screen, like at the beginning of my movies when the credits are showing.

I'm reluctant to use a VBR because (1) I'll never know how big the file I'll get will be (right?) and (2) I've converted movies with a bitrate of 5500 and I still get the damn blocks, so I don't think any bitrate setting is my problem here.

Well guys, any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Joe
