Best Buy has the 4X 10 pack of Fuji DVD-Rs on sale for $14.99 after $5 rebate. Look for "Made in Japan" on the box to make sure you are getting Taiyo Yuden media. Works out to about $1.67 per after tax/rebate which is a great price for local pickup on high end media 8)

The rebate is limited to one per customer or address. I found that out after buying ten packs. But two dollars per disk is not bad for a disk thats made by Taiyo Yuden and 4x to boot.

  5. Warning: FujiFilm 4x DVD-R disks do *not* burn at 4x in an LG GSA-4040B drive, only 2x.

WOW, if your drive doesn't accept one of the top 1 or 2 brands of media as 4X certified then you need to be asking for an updated firmware

Uhhhh... That's not true with my LG 4040BI. It burned the FujiFilm (Taiyo Yuden) discs at 4X as advertised. Yes, the same ones bought from BestBuy...what a deal!

I use Nero 6.0. What's your firmware? I've updated to A300. Not sure if that's the difference. Good luck.

  8. My drive has the A300 firmware. I run DVDInfoPro on a blank FujiFilm 4x DVD-R and get

    Media code/Manufacturer ID TAIYOYUDEN
    ...
Media Id Code Speed 2.0x 2770KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 2.0x 2770KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 1.0x 1385KBps
    Write Strategy Speed 1.0x 1385KBps

As you can see, there's no way in heck this disk is going to burn at 4x in this drive. I bought the disks in boxes of 10 jewel cases. The outside of each box clearly says, "Up to 4x write speed." However, each individual disk and jewel case says *nothing* about 4x speed.

  9. Media with mfr Id "TAIYOYUDEN" are only 2x media so they will never burn in 4x on any DVD writer. Taiyo Yuden's 4x DVD-R media have mfr ID "TYG01".

  10. So I was rooked.

I would return them to the location that I bought them from and demand a replacement. This is a good deal for 4X media but pretty expensive for 1X.

Uh that's also not true, cuz the Taiyo Yuden packaged by FujiFilm (labled as "up to 4X" as described), burned at 4X on Nero 6. The whole disk burned in 14 minutes, that's 4X last I checked. I burned 2/10 discs so far and both burned at 4X. Played beautifully on my Panny RP-91.

I'm not home so I can't check the exact ID, but it's definitely Taiyo Yuden packaged by FujiFilm in jewel cases, sold by Bestbuy at $19.99 with a $5 rebate. No bulls**ting!!

I will give a full ID report by DVDinfo when I get home...if that ever happens!

  13. I think jsl is correct and that Fujifilm apparently is selling two different types of discs (both TAIYOYUDEN and TYG01) in the same box package which says up to 4X, according to the following link:

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=169842

albertr (the 7th post) got the "TYG01" discs rated at 4X, and jimmydu3 (the 19th post) got the "TAIYOYUDEN" discs rated at 2X. If this is not false advertising, then I don't know what is.

So check your Fujifilm media ID code first and do not assume that they are always rated at 4X.

The ones I bought has "Up to 4x" on the front of the box with version 2.0 on the back. Using DVDinfo it says TYG01 for media code version 2.2 with a write speed of 4x.

I bought ten boxes, hopefully they are all TYG01 media.
