  1. Hi all,

I am transferring some VHS tapes to DVD using VirtualDUB and TMPGEnc. I would like to convert the WAV files from TMPGEnc to AC3 using BeSweet. However when I do that, the resulting *.ac3 file does not have any audio. BeSweet creates the ac3 file, but when I try to replay it nothing comes out. I have installed the ac3Filter which, presumably, lets me play back ac3 audio. I have followed Baldrick's guide on this site and still get the same results.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

    Regards

If you have PowerDVD, open them in there. They should play fine.

Besweet creates a log file in the same folder as the program. You may want to open it up to see what it says.

  5. Hi Racer-x,

Thanks once again for the reply. I have checked the log file and it reports everything ok as shown below.

    C:\DVD Copying\BeSweet\BeSweet.exe -core( -input c:\DVD Copying\BeSweet\Test.wav -output c:\DVD Copying\BeSweet\Test.ac3 -logfile C:\DVD Copying\BeSweet\BeSweet.log ) -ssrc( --rate 48000 ) -ac3enc( -b 192 )

    [00:00:00:000] +------- BeSweet -----
    [00:00:00:000] | Input : c:\DVD Copying\BeSweet\Test.wav
    [00:00:00:000] | Output: c:\DVD Copying\BeSweet\Test.ac3
    [00:00:00:000] | Floating-Point Process: No
    [00:00:00:000] | Source Sample-Rate: 48.0KHz
    [00:00:00:000] +------- AC3ENC ------
    [00:00:00:000] | Bitrate method : CBR
    [00:00:00:000] | AC3 bitrate : 192
    [00:00:00:000] | Channels Mode : 2.0
    [00:00:00:000] | Error Protection: Yes
    [00:00:00:000] +---------------------
    [00:00:07:920] Conversion Completed !
    [00:00:07:920] Actual Avg. Bitrate : 191kbps
    [00:00:00:000] <-- Transcoding Duration

When I try to play the resulting TEST.AC3 file in my Creative Mediasource Player, it goes through the motions of playing back a file of the correct length, but there is no sound there. Also, if I create a DVD with that AC3 file, my settop DVD player has no sound either.

    Regards

Everything looks OK except the transcoding duration. It's all zeros, maybe it didn't encode anything. Besweet works great for me, though I use 224 kbps, but I don't think that should matter.

Maybe there is something wrong with the wav file. I would check that it is indeed a PCM 48 KHZ.

  7. I have had trouble with the output when I use the SSRC parameter for resampling the audio from 44.1 to 48.

You could try the resampling in VirtualDub when you output the wav file (full processing mode > conversion). You also might want to increase the volume at the same time (for some reason, might be peculiar to me though ,the volume of the resultant ac3 is always a bit low for my taste).

Then leave out the SSRC bit from the Besweet commands.

    Hope this helps
