  1. Hi All,

Just got Identity on DVD. Poped it in the drive and opened up DVDDecrypter, done an ISO read and it shows the region as being 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8. Is this some kind of new protection their using? As mentioned on one of my previous posts, this also happened on Star Trek Nemisis. Even running it through IFOEdit didn't change it. When the discs are burnt, they are burnt with all these regions on them and the set top player won't play them, any clues please

    Many Thanks

Having region 1-8 set means that the DVD is multi-region and will play in ALL region DVD Players. IFOEdit / DVDDecrypter etc will set this by default anyway. There must be another problem with your DVD (structure, IFO or whatever) - this is probably why it doesn't play in your set top player. Does it play OK on your PC ?

  3. Cheers for the info. Got to be honest and say that I haven't tried it on the PC. Don't usually play anything through the PC as it's always busy Rippng

  4. Just one other thing. When I put the copied disc, a message appeared on my screen saying that the disc's region does not match my player region. This was a message displayed by the disc as it was not the message my player normally display when the region is incorrect. Transcoded and burnt twice and still the same thing.

    Thanks

If you've authored the DVD yourself or generally bu*&ered around with the IFO - then I suggest you run 'Set VTS sectors' in IFOedit - this will fix navigation problems with the IFO. From my experience, if not done this will definately stop the DVD from playing properly.

what's the default region of the top set player ? Have you checked that it's not RCE protected - (I'm positive that shrink and decrypter take this off by default as well but worth checking your settings...)

  7. The set top player was sold to me as multi region but you have to change the region with the remote. It plays both 1 and 2 (as a rule, even RCE encoded stuff) and is always set at 0. DVDDecrypter does say that it's cracking RCE when needed but these two disc's don't mention RCE on them.

    Thanks

  8. Also, on the original DVD box, it says that it's a region 1

Hmmm I'm a bit stumped - if all your other rips have been fine then it must be just these films - having not done Identity or Nemesis myself then there is a possibility that they have done something smart with the IFO's (that's all they can do - no other method of protection can be used (that's all RCE is - smart menu navigation).

Something else to try - move the IFO's from your hard drive to somewhere safe, use IFOEdit to re create the IFO's from the decryped VOB's and try again not fogetting to run get VTS sectors ...(burn on a DVD-RW..)

Since you previously had ripped all your files, then just copy the original IFOs and BUPs straight off the DVD and replaced your ripped ones. Then open each IFO with Ifoedit 0.95 and press Region Free button. If RCE checking is detected, set the region. Save IFO and BUP. Check all IFOs.

If you wrong region screen still pops up, there may be specific commands in your PGC Command Tables that are expecting a certain GPreg value to play the movie. You will have to know how to analyze how the commands work. When IFOedit detected RCE checking, it provided a message box with all the RCE command lines it was going to change. Usually two common places RCE is programmed is in the VIDEO_TS.IFO and your main movie's IFO.

Just a thought here but since the DVD is set to regions 1 thru 8 could it be that the stand alone DVD player will NOT play the DVD if the player is set to region 0?

In other words try changing the stand alone DVD player to region 1 and see if it works.

  14. Good thinking but I have tried every region on the play and it still comes up with the same message. I have just re-DVDDecrypted Identity, so I am going to log off and give it another try.

  15. I heard about standalones that won't play [region 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8] DVDs
but play only the ones that has one region set and it matches with the player.

    Never seen one though

Check 2COOL's tutorial on fixing The Simpsons, Season 3 Region 1 DVD. This DVD had the same problem like yours. He supplied some knowledge on the logic of the commands used. It may not be the same as yours but at least it gives you some insight on what to do.
