  1. I just reformmated my computer and after dealing with multiple installations/reformat's of Windows 98SE (USB support my arse) I had to install WinME (yeech!) as my operating system.

After working out most of the kinks (not recognising my network card etc) I still can't get Windows Media Player to run properly. Basically no matter what file or format the clip is in Windows Media Player will just freeze when it goes to play it.

Initially it was working but recently it has been doing the above. I have tried reinstalling it but that hasn't helped at all so I have no idea what could be causing it.

Any help appreciated. If no one has any ideas I am going to use my last resort and upgrade to WinXP (hopefully my computer is fast enough).

  2. I did a little bit of searching to help you out. I found this
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;820772

It talks about media player hanging with multiple monitors. I know you did not say you had multiple monitors, but the article says it occurs because Media Player is not recieving the proper change of state signal. Maybe something in your computer is stopping this signal as well.

Anyway, there is a patch for it. You could try to install it and see what happens. You may get lucky.

  3. Thanks for the tip.

I downloaded it and installed it but it didn't seem to make any difference so I am back to the drawing board. If I can't figure something out by Thursday I am going to install WinXP and hope that solves the problem.

Just for the record in case anyone also has the same problem. No, I don't have multiple monitors set up.
