E80 and copying DVD

Hi,
I just recived my E80 and I have not tested it at all. If I want to make a copy of a DVD movie I already own, what is the easiest way to do so. What other equipment do I need? Please, any response is welcome, I am a complete rookie.

well.first of all u need another DVD player ! and it would certainly help if it had macrovison removed otherwise the E80 wont let you record it unless u want to geta lead that removes macrovision ..there are lots of posts in the forum suggesting what lead to get

I don't think making a copy of a DVD by playing it from another DVD player is the way to get any quality backups. What you really need is a DVD burner then a software ripper like SmartRipper (free) and a program like DVDshrink (free) to re-encode the DVD files. Also you would need a burning program like RecordNow Max or Nero to burn the DVDR.

A DVD recorder is best used for converting VHS tapes to DVDR or recording from cable TV or whatever.

cool, thanks for the responses. Actually I bought this unit to do exactly that, time shift from Cable and Sattelite, and convert my old VHS tape. I decided if I want a movie on DVD I will record off of Pay per View

In general, the answer is indeed "no." However.....

I purchased an Apex AD-5131 3-disc changer at Wal-Mart a few weeks ago, and dang if that thing won't just pass any DVD content to my Panasonic DMR-E50, no problem at all! This may have everything to do with "dumb luck" more than anything else, but "it worked for me..."

As with anything like this, "your mileage may vary."

I just got the AD-5131 at Walmart, for $59.44.

I tried playing a DVD on it, and copying to the E80, but got the copy protection botiec on screen. Another poster said he could copy from the 5131.

The 5131 will not play the discs I make on the E80, although the discs play on my AD-1500 perfectly.

Just wondering about others experiences with the AD-5131 and Panasonic recorders?

Do other Apex models play the Panasonic discs? Someone said their AD-1200 would not.

The 5131 seems like a very nice player overall (price/features). It plays my CD-RW MP3 discs, picture discs, regular CDs, and bought/rented DVDs....just not my E80 recorded ones!
