  1. You can get quality CDR blanks for about 30 cents each. It took years to eventually settle around this price.

The price for DVD-R blanks are dropping. Where will the prices bottom out?

I would probably say that 1X media will be around .50-.75 by sometime next year. 4X prices will probably be around .80-1.50 next year, while 8X media will run around 1.25-2.00.

    At least I hope so.

I just bought 200 at Office Depot for $29.95 which makes them about 15 cents each. I got one batch (with the rebates) awhile back for 8 cents ... which is about as cheap as I've seen them.

and i assume you are talking about "quality cdrs" as the post was about? what brand/manufacturer? seems like the Fuji's have been the only quality media with great prices AFTER rebate, still the last fuji deal was $25 for 100 before the rebate, .25 a disc for TY's is pretty damn great! it was 10 cents after rebate. What other "quality" CDR media is there anyway? only mitsui and Taiyo Yuden fall into that catagory for me.

Hmmm ..... these are 48X Imation. I've never had a problem with ANY CD-Rs though, so I'm not sure on the question of quality. My burners have been 2 Plextors, 2 Lite-Ons, and 1 Pioneer A-05. Most of my burns have been Picture2TVs, Utility discs for troubleshooting and upgrades, and some SVCD short videos.

  7. Rima has lowered their prices again. Princo's are down to .75, Bealls .99 and Dupez's are .79. I'll take the Dupez's.

  8. Staples had a sale on TDK cdr's i think two weeks back. 100 for $15 and there was a 10 MIR with it. That makes it 0.05 cents each.

It's not a question of how low it goes but rather when it drops to a price you can live with. I'm glad I didn't wait until now to pick up a CD burner (hell, I've even had a DVD burner for almost a year now).

You pay a slight premium if you don't wait as long to pick it up, but your media costs go down over time. I know I would never have picked up DVD-R blanks when they were $20-$25 a piece, but prices have been reasonable for a while now. As prices go down, I simply buy more name brand DVD-R discs (I haven't bought off-brand CDR in years) and use them more freely.
