    1) Been saving for a Pioneer DVR-106D DVD±RW for my computer.

    2) Have allocated $100-$150 for the DVD±RW

    3) Also want a Digital Video Recorder w/ no subscription costs, basically so I can skip commercials.

I did not know that I could buy a unit that would record directly to DVD-R or DVD±RW (such as the Panasonic E50).

Does anyone think it would be feasible to buy one unit and kill two birds with one stone? I.e., would a device such as the E50 be able to burn data DVD's? I will only be burning DVD's for data storage and for storing converted home movies.

    Your thoughts?

No, the standalone DVD recorders can't record "data" discs like a computer, only video like a VCR.

If you're looking for something like Tivo/Replay, just look at the Panasonic E80 or E100, also Pioneer is just coming out with new models that have Tivo built-in but some people are saying you can't edit commercials on the Pioneer's (not sure if this is true or not yet).
