Unfortunately Epson will not make this printer available to Australia and I was wondering if someone could point me to somewhere on the web where I can buy it.
Thanks

Strange I know. When I saw Australia I was over the moon, but each one I looked at didn't seem to stock the 900. I got confirmation from Epson Australia that the 900 will not be available to us . . . the reason:
Thank you for your E-mail.
I am sorry to inform you that EPSON Australia is not distributing either of
the Stylus Photo 900 or the Stylus Photo 960, the major reason for this is
that they use die based inks and not pigment inks.
Kindest Regards
EPSON Sales
EPSON Australia Pty Ltd
I have no idea what the die based ink has to do with Australia ??
Its a real pain.
I just found out that the Epson 2100 is available here, but its worth around $2000AUD (I think around $1300USD). As much as I would like to print on my DVDs, I dont want to spend that much.
Thanks for your help.
Kind Regards

Dye based inks? That sounds like a poor excuse. I guess none of the older Epson are avilable then are they. What knd of power do you have down there? 220 or 110 volts, and 50 or 60 cycles. I'm sure you can find someone that will ship you a printer. Just need to know what area to order from. North America is going to be 110 volt, 60 cycle power. Most of the rest of the world will be 220 volt, 50 cycle power.
The 2100 goes for around $599-$699USD here. If that conversion is correct, I could send you 2 for that much money.
Have you checked Ebay for NEW/remanufactured Epson 960's. There might be a few people that would ship it to you.Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... OK, wrong price. The 2100 is going for $899USD, but it doesn't allow printing to CD's.

see if you can buy one of these down there (up there) http://www.primeratechnology.com/signature4/index.asp
they work just fine
yea -- whats with the die vs. pigment thing ? makes no sense .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
$1495.00 ??????
And $58 for each cartridge? And I thought Epson was expensive!
The auto loader option would be the only thing that seperates the primera from the Epson. Since Epson does not offer any kind of loader. It is strictly 1 disc at a time.Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... oh -- didnt realize they were that much -- i have one of thier duplicators/printers which is real nice..
i thought they used to have a cheaper printer than that ,,"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Even at $899USD it works out to $1389.78AUD . . . . I think I need to be living in the US not Australia
I downloaded the PDF for the 2100 and the Australian model does print directly to CD. I found a number of mode that some companies are performing to Epsons and Canons and then reselling them. I have a Canon S300 and I am going to take it apart today and try and convert it. Its only cheapy printer so it doesn't matter if I destroy it.
The voltage here is 240V at 50Hz, so I am guessing I need to buy the Epson 900 from either the UK (240 I think) or Asia (220).
Thanks Guys

I would be very interested in some links for the mods you will be doing. And I would be more that happy to help in any way I can (that is, for being half a world away).
If a person could modify say.... an Epson C4x printer, they could sell it for about double the price, and still be cheaper than any other printer that will print onto CD's. The Epson C4x can be had for as little as $50USDHope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... The following is some of the info I have found so far:
http://www.paperandinks.com/acatalog/cdprinter.htm
http://www.pacexp.com/cd_printers.htm
The second link is pretty good. From what I can tell you need a print that has a straight through print system or can be modified to support straight through printing. I have a canon S300SP and just put it back together again and it can be modified, but it would be a major mod.
I may look at simply buying a second hand printer from ebay and modifing it. From what I can tell the Caddy is the most important part.
If you guys find any more info I would love to hear about it.
Cheers

Had a look for the printers on ebay and could find any of them. From what I can tell, Canon Australia only stock the S820 now. I am going to have look at it and see if the modification is going to be simple enough.

I have some thoughts about the caddy.
Avery makes labels for CD's that come 2 on a sheet. If you were to make a caddy that was cut the same as their label sheet, you could use their FREE software to compose your labels.
You could trick an old Epson 1520 into straight through feed. But you would need to modify it such that the printer can remain in friction feed mode, but is looking for paper from the traction feed side. It is only a switch that you would have to install. Pretty easy to (I have one and will do this mod sometime if the future). I also converted this one to a bottle feed bulk ink system. Right now I am still trying to come up with a good way to make the tray.Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... A six disk for the Epson 1520. I wonder if that price includes the printer, or is just the mod. If it includes the printer, they are getting about $500+ for the mod. If it doesn't include the printer, I have to ask why anyone would buy that mod with better solutions for only a little bit more.

I just remembered that I have an old Epson 640 That I could modify. I'll go tear it aprt and see how bad that would be to mod. You should be able to get the old 640 for next to nothing used. Then just make a tray from something. I'll be back in a while.

The old stylus color 640 looks like it should work just fine! And it is a pre-chip cartridge. That means easy to refill, or adapt to bulk ink! I looked at the Epson 785epx, it will not be as easy to convert. But it might still work.
Anyone else interested in something like this? I might make a guide if people are.Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they? -
Just for curiosity I checked Ebay for used epson 640's. There are many, and they are cheap!

This may be the way to go. I only look at the epsons because I prefer to use them. I also think I have the service manual for the 640 and many other models. And that never hurts.
