Forgive my ignorance but I am very new to this. One of my chief uses for all the different hardware/software I am currently getting is to edit two or more video sources featuring my band, and then synching it with an outside audio source. Specifically this would mean two camcorders used to shoot my band plus a separate dat recording of the band. This is in a live situation so we are talking about synch for 60 minutes or more. Is this a major request? I mean, is this something that is found in most video editing programs, or only the higher end programs. I have found it difficult to find info on synching so this is why I ask. I tend to think some sort of smpte like code is used when capturing audio and video providing for easy synching, but maybe I am crazy. Any help/guidance is appreciated.

I think, if you feed the analog out of your DAT machine into you CAM corder during recording, you can use the sound of the DAT as synch.
In order to do this, you need a Video Editor, which can show the wav form of the audio tracks.Just shift all your clips, until the waveforms fit to your master wave. Then do your cuts and effects. After editing, just delete or disable the audio tracks of the Video tracks.
This way you have at least frame based synch.
