  1. How do i use the latest tooLame, 02L with TMPGEnc? The tooLame file i've downloaded from their site is not and .exe file. When i put it into TMPGEnc (like environmental settings, audio engine etc.) it does the temporal audio thing and says tooLame-02L cannot be used as external encoder.
BTW i have TMPGEnc 2.5 PLUS

First off, have a little patience. Don't expect instant answers. People do this for fun in their free time, there isn't a paid staff here to answer your questions.

If you don't have a toolame.exe then you might have downloaded the wrong file. There are two kinds of download on the toolame site, one is a source archive (a .tgz file) that you would have to compile and the other is a precompiled DOS/Windows binary in a Zip file. You want the DOS/Windows zip file, extract it and you should get a folder with a usable toolame.exe and a support DLL.

  5. Thanks for replying man.

I went to tooLame's website and found this
CYGWIN compiled version for dos/win toolame-02l.zip.
i unzipped it and found what you told me, a .exe file
when i put it into TMPGEnc, i went to source range to split my movie, it froze. I tried it again, and agin.

Is this the file, there are no more zip files in that website.

That's the right file, and I seriously doubt that it has anything to do with tmpgenc hanging in the source range dialog. That has absolutely nothing to do with toolame, you'll only see toolame being run when you actually start encoding. That problem can be caused by a bad source file, or a bad codec. Occasionally I've had it happen with good codecs and files, I think it's actually related to DirectShow.

try ripping the sound out to a WAVe file, and encoding it 'externally' using tooLame and muxing back in? You'll have to get your hands dirty with a bit of command line typing but it may work a whole lot better...

Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more!

    mcgreedy,

I am having the same problem you are. Except I have tried several audio encoders like ssrc also. It's the same thing, tmpgnc does not want to accept an external encoder.

I suspect that the free version of this program locks out an external audio compresser. I have stated as much in another post in the audio dept of this forum, but no one has come along to agree or disagree.

I am about to send an email to tmpgenc and ask them.

But anyway, it seams like every time I ask a question here, I get a runaround answer. Like the reply that Sterno posted about it being related to DirectShow? WTF? Why would someone say something like that to someone in need of help? Then to offer no more info.

It is a lot of work to make a VCD, and I have spent thousands on hardware and software. I just can't see myself making any more discs until this problem is worked out.

Let's check to see if it is related to the free version of this encoder. Like once you pay, they let you use outboard gear for audio.

    I feel for you!

    Jeff
