  1. I am new to DVD's, but have edited a lot of dv-tapes using Adobe Premier and Piinacle Studio 7.

Have ordered a new Plextor 708 dvd-burner that will arrive next week.

I am also about to change my DDR RAM and wonder if I should stick to 512mb, or get 1024 MB.

Will I see a worthwhile performance increase in rendering, or is 512MB enough?

  2. For rendering, 512Mb is enough for most, if not all encoders.

  3. The more the better when it comes to RAM. Some people have more RAM than the size of my old slave hard drive.

512MB is enough. RAM prices are climbing these days. And by the time you will want to buy the next generation CPU, DDRRam will be as obsolete as a PII.

I am using 2 X 512MB and did some trials, removing one of the DIMMs. Did not notice any difference. The only time more memory makes a difference is when editing really large images.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  5. If your asking Re: video, rendering, compiling/authoring then RAM is not the most important thing. Don't get me wrong, RAM is good, for a FAT32 system 512 megs is the best you can do. Depending on the NTFS system and MoBo used, you can use up to 2.5 gigs of RAM.

As far as video, rendering, compiling/authoring...the speed of the system processor in what's most important. The faster your system processor, the faster it will render and author your movie files.

  6. 512 is enough if you are using win xp. 1024mb is more than enough for most people.
