  1. other than just using just instant copy by itself? are there other/better ways with better quality towards the main movie? like using cce? or something else to have higher quality?

Not sure what i'm looking for in an answer but just asking.

  2. i use dvd x copy xpress , and i use the Main Movie Only mode, with means, it will only copy the main movie only at the highest quality possible.. Or you can use full dvd, witch means it will compress the dvd down to fit onto 1 dvd r/rw.. i know i talk about this program alot, but its the only one that actully is very easy to use

  5. I've looked at the guides.... but i'm asking if there are people that use any other programs on the vbo files before hand WITH IC7? like does someone prefer to use some program to re-encode the main movie because it does a "better job" then place the nicely re-encoded movie back into IC7 and then process the movie? that way they can keep the whole dvd? while keeping good quality on the main movie?

Again i'm just give extremely loose uneducated examples... but hoping you get my point?

    Thanks

  7. Alot of people use DVDshrink to rip the the movie from the DVD then use IC7 to encode it.

    I use IC7.

    Here's my method.

    Rip with Decrypter.

Open IC7...hopefully you also downloaded IC7 settings...and never use "automatic compression". My strategy in IC7 is pretty simple, first I go to the main movie file and I set it at 90%....85% is the lowest I will go, if I can't do 85% then I do just the movie. Then I go to all the other chapters and I compress them as much as I need to, so that it will all fit. I get rid of all the extra audio for all chapters, like director commentary and all that, and also the high MB dolby audio, 2.1 or something like that.
Now as far as the chapters and such go, I open WinDVD 4 and play the DVD from it's VIDEO_TS folder and I thumb through the chapters that way. You will obviously come across some "easter eggs" in there that maybe you didn't know about or something. I find this way to be much easier than trying to "preview" each chapter in IC7. I also mentioned in a different post that you can go to your windows folder options....My Computer>tools>folder options.....click on the "file types" tab and scroll the list down to VOB and set WinDVD or PowerDVD as the default program for view that file extention, then you can just open the VIDEO_TS folder and double click VOB files to see which ones you want to keep.

Anyway, when I get what I want figured out, I take everything I don't want and remove all the audio from it and set it's comression to 30%.

Then if I am below the 4.31 GB level I will raise the percentage on my main movie.

Also if I have a DVD with both widescreen and fullscreen on it, then I choose which one I want and compress the other one down to around 50% usually. The 50% will look alright just pixelates sometimes around the edges of things and high action scenes are blocky.

I also add up the file sizes myself. Since IC7 reports the wrong file size, I add the MB's and GB's up myself. I usually compress to around 4.33-4.35, I get a red line telling me it won't fit, but just add it up by hand and see. It's just something I do.

Once compressed, I convert the pdi files to ISO, then check the DVD using Daemon Tools, then burn with Decrypter.

As far as using other progs on the VOB files, like re-encoding them with a different program or something...no, I don't do that. I really haven't found a need, my DVD's look very good.

  9. I use DVDDecrypter to rip the ENTIRE DVD to my HD. I then use IC7, get rid of all subtitles and any audio that is not English. I then turn down the video quality as low as the slider allows for every video other than the main movie file. Go back to the main movie file and turn it up as high as the slider will allow (4.32 Max) This method allows me to keep the whole disc as one, and you can't tell the difference in quality from the main movie. Some main movie files have been as low as 50% of the original and yet the quality remains the same. I know that there must be some difference but you would have to be really anal to notice it.

  10. There are a 1001 ways to work this. Since IC allows you to manually set the level of compression for each VTS, the best thing to do is lower the settings for the menu's/extras and raise it for the main movie.

Best quaility? You don't use IC (or any transcoder) you re-encode with TMPGenc or CCE. But that takes longer, esp if you plan to re-encode the entire DVD and/or if the DVD has several PGC. Then you need to think about using the 'big3' and while not all that difficult there are a LOT of steps and it takes a LOT of time.
