I received the film Seven Samurai: Criterion Collection just recently, and would like to make an archival copy, so I can put my original away, and not worry about the kids getting their hands on it, and or getting scratched.
I was originally just going to pick up a second copy, but here in Canada, since it is an import, it is around $70.
Unfortunately, Criterion has uber-copyprotected this disc, so I cannot make a duplicate backup.
I have tried Super DVD Ripper, Nero, DVDShrink, CloneDVD, and even tried to just get a VCD with EazyVCD, and none of it worked.
The disc, when scanned, reads itself as "unreadable".
Even tried just copying files from the disc onto the hard drive, and it will not let you do that as well.
Would anyone have any suggestions on how I can make a back-up copy?
    Thanks in advance.

Have you tried DVD Decrypter or smartripper, these 2 tools are the best at ripping DVD's.

Also have you even tried just putting the DVD in your DVD Rom Drive "NOT YOUR DVD WRITER" if you have 1, right clicking on the DVD Rom drive, selecting all the Files that are on the DVD and copying them to your harddrive.

Then you will be able to run one of them Transcoders such as DVD2ONE, or DVDSHRINK etc... .

I only have a CD-Writer and a DVDwriter in my machine, and the DVD-writer even has problems reading that certain disc.

The there might be a problem with the disc itself, if your DVD writer has problems reading it.

No, it has no problem playing in the dvd player, it's perfect..but it does say copy-protected on the back of the label. I can't even pull all the files off the disc, it gives and error, something about "0" parameters....

The only other thing i can think of is, if you have a friend that has got a DVD Rom Drive in there computer, try it in that and see it that will drag it off using DVD Decrypter or smartripper.

Then you'll know that you will need a DVD Rom Drive or not.
