  1. I had (and have) the problem, that i wanted to archive some svcds on DVD media (ISO) by extrating the .mpg part of the disc. but my 2001 wont play most of them. (firmware 2.27)
so i tried to convert those with divx 5,02.
the divx files (made with wirtual dub 1.54 mpeg version, 995 kBit, audio as mp3 at 128 kBit) freeze exactly (i treid 3 of them) at 22 mintes an a few seconds. first video stutters a bit then it freezes.
i downloaded divx 5.1 (adware) and tried, but the file stuttered, too. not at the same position, but i had used about 780 kBit for video, so maybe this was a point why it is different.

what can be the problem ?
i will try with some dv movies made with my dvcam, convert to divx an try that out. but it seems, there are a few more problems with 2001 than i thought.

will there be a new firmware in the near future ??

  2. According to all the forums I have read too high of audio bitrate can cause freezes. It seems that it could also be related to too high of video bitrate or a combination of audio/video bitrate settings.

I have been re-encoding my DIVX files to 96kbps for the audio and the problem has gone away. Since I am recording to CDR most of my DIVX files would not fit on a CDR until I made them smaller anyway. The DIVX files are of much better image quality than SVCDs.

  3. Most of the divxs that I have created have video rates of 900kbit and audio rates of 256kbit and they all play perfectly with divx 5

  4. with which software do you convert to divx ?
i tried virtual dub 1.54 mpeg version and dr divx 1.02.
with virtual dub, the video stop in the middle or begins to stutter. dr divx sometimes loses audio sync. so both are not reliable, i always have to check the resulting movie for the problems above, which is annoying.
is there a reliable tool for converting .mpgs to divx 5 ?

Maybe you have the bitrates too high. I used virtualdub-mpeg2(build 16616/release) and converted a large mpeg fine. It was still too large to fit on a CDR so I then used DrDivx to encode it again. Looks like we have to make a few coasters until some smart person comes up with a good "How To" guide for us noobs.

I do not use PAL but according to an email I got from LiteOn:
