Pioneer DV 717
Pioneer DVR 108
Sony RDR-GX3 -
Look for 3 proggies called DoItFast4U, DoCCE4U, and Reauthorist. When used together you can do this somewhat easily in combination with cce and scenarist.

thanx
but is there some guide for this complex operationPioneer DV 717
Pioneer DVR 108
Sony RDR-GX3 -
Yes, but it is a little complex though. This is the way I do all of my dvd movies but I usually dont use DoCCE4U though. I rip the dvd and all of its contents using DoItFast4U and allow it to create the d2v and avs files. Then I look over all of the avs files in notepad to make sure the filters are set right. Then I open Reauthorist and point it to the dir that DoItFast4U ripped the dvd to and adjust all of the calculated bitrates for everything if necessary, and uncheck whatever audio tracks I dont want to keep. When I am satisifed with all of the settings in Reauthorist I then hit 'author it' to have it create a cce ecl batch file and just load that into cce to reencode everything. When thats done then I load the scp file that reauthorist also generated into scenarist and goto layout editor, select 2048 byte sectors, and simply hit start to put it back together again. Then ifoupdate, then image and burn.

Ive never used dvdxcopy or any of those kinds of user friendly programs before so I dont really know if there is a true hassle free way of doing this or not. But I do believe this is the best way to do it however, and even if there were I would probably still do it this way. -
Why not just use Instant Copy or DVD Shrink or something?
Some special reason you're looking to re-encode instead of transcoding?

You get much better quaility re-encoding with CCE (or TMPGenc) then transcoding with a program like DVD Shrink, DVD2One, IC, etc. Mind you if quaility was your primary concern you should backup your DVD9 discs on two DVDRs. But if you want a DVD9 to DVDR backup with the best possible quaility, the big3 is the way to go.
It just takes a lot longer, is not as user friendly and there are more things that could go wrong -
I recommend DVD Shrink. It'll keep less warez off your system and will do the job a lot quicker.

Yes, if you dont know much about avisynth, scenarist (this one is real painful at 1st), cce, pulldown, etc or how dvds are structured then you might just want to look into the Dvdshrink proggy or Instant Copy and save yourself alot of misery. From what I hear they offer reasonable results if the original main movie isnt over 5gigs or so. But if you are a control freak like me and want the best possible quality with no blockiness then the way I mentioned is the best way. Its all a matter of taste and patience I suppose. It usually only takes me around 5 hours or so per movie with the big 3 from rip to burn, but I have a relativley fast cpu and raided hard drives, and ive done the process a bunch of times. If you plan to use the big 3 I recomend downsizing all of the extras to half d1 rez (352x480) so you can lower the overall bitrate of them (to around 1500 or so each) and give the extra bits over to the main movie. This way you are sure to have a stunning looking movie and also be able to retain all of the xtra footage aswell. That is how I do all of my movies. When using the big 3 method practice makes perfection.

Also the software in the big 3, if obtained legally, will run you about $30,000. Not very conducive to beginners.
