I have some Verbatim 2x and some Princo 4x DVD-R. I burned the same movie on both brands and the write time was the same. Why.
I have a Sony dru500a. With firmware 2.0

Because the 4x wasn't being written to at 4x - it was written to at 2x.
Either that or they were all written at 1x...
If you read the FAQ's and other posts, you will see that you have to take the speed rating with a pinch of salt at the best of times. A lot of people have problems with Princo - they will say you can not compare them with the Verbatim.
