  1. DVD burner coming in the mail and im excited to get started. Ive been doing VCD's on Cd-R's for about 2 week's now and im hooked, but can;t wait to switch the DVD recordable's!!. Im looking for opinions on best ways to burn the DVD's. The more opinions the better. I've read that the All-IN-One's can lack in quality, so im looking for the whole process from start to finish using the different programs resulting in BEST DVD QUALITY. From decryption to burning. Program to Program. The more opinions the better!! Thanks for your time you guys!!!

  3. I don't mean to be rude but your questions have already been answered, try using search and "How to Guides" to the left.

BTW...I agree about using DVDShrink for backing-up.

  4. I don't think there is a good answer to your question. Anyway I use a lot of programs like DVDshrink, DVDX Xpress, DVD2one, NeoDVD Plus, RecorndNow Max, and a few others (IFOedit, VOBedit).

  5. There really is no best way that someone can tell you, but you'll find the best tools for what you want to do through experimentation.

    I use:

    DVDShrink for backing up DVDs
    Ulead VideoStudio for capturing
    VirtualDub for editing AVI
TMPGENc Plus for encoding MPEG2 and editing MPEG2
    DVD-Lab for authoring
    Nero for burning

I've played with tons of others, and some work, but did not do what I needed.

  6. Best? If it's DVD5 just backup with DVD Decrypter. If it's DVD9 spilt it to two DVDR discs. That's the best.

However, for some reason people are consumed with the need to cram as much material as possible onto one DVDR (look at the the 6-8hr/DVDR questions for ep VHS backups).

In that case the best method is the big three (http://www.doom9.org) but it's NOT easy. Basically re-encoding and then re-authroing the entire disc.

Most people perfer a one click transcoding program: Instant Copy, DVDShrink, DVD2One, DVD95copy, etc. DVDShrink is the only freeware program, and it's actually pretty good.

If you only want the to backup the main movie, you get better quaility by striping out all the menus/extra with IFOEdit, and then just re-encode (or transcode) that (if smaller than 4.3GB just burn directly).

This guide pretty much covers everything:

  7. I have to agree with Bob W in that there is no good way to answer that question.

I have been burning DVDs for just over a month and man have I learned alot. You have to find the programs that suit you best. Some prefer more user friendly tools while some like ones that have a manual the size of a phone book (Scenarist, Maestro). When you get your burner, read some of the "How to" guides and read the Forums.

My favs include: IfoEdit & VobEdit (must have's), DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, Chopper XP (VOB editing).

  8. What exactly ia VOB editing and what is the purpose of doing that?

ALso iw as wondering if it was possible to add your own porsonal audio files do DVD's. For example, when the DVD starts and goes to the menu screen, could you splice in our own audio file to say something like, "You are about to watch 007 - Die another Day starring Halle Barry. Enjoy the show!" Just for example.

THANKS FOR THE REPLIES EVERYONE!!!! REALLY HELPFUL! I APPRECIATE ALL THE TIME YOU GUYS HAVE SPENT!! I WISH I COULD RETURN THE KNOWLEDGE!!

Some VOB (Video OBject) files are seamless and run into different chapters of the DVD. Wrestling DVDs are a good example. A match can start on Chapter 7 and finish on Chapter 8. With editing the VOB files you can take out the part you want to use in your DVD
