I have noticed last week that the lowest price for cheap media as reported by pricewatch.com was dropping a penny a day almost. For example a 100 pack goes for $67 here http://store.yahoo.com/cdrdvdrmedia/pw-4xhqdvdr.html
I'm still hoping to see the day good 2x media sells for less than $0.50 and 4x for $0.75 or less.![]()

There are a few reasons for this. More people are purchasing DVD burners due to the amazingly inexpensive prices. That means more demand for media..which means more supply. More supply means "quantitative" discounts for many...and as a result...the consumer benefits as well. Another big reason for such rapid price drops in DVD media is because of more competition.
When 8x media becomes public along with the 8x burners....that will also decrease slower speed media....such as 1-2x. However, I doubt 4x media will decrease as rapidly, due to the fact that many can upgrade their burners to burn @4x and aren't just going to go out and purchase a 8x burner. I know I wouldn't even consider it. 4x media is still so new that It is only going to become more compatible and stable. 15 minutes to burn an entire project is perfectly fine with me.
It seems like there is a new media manufacturer everywhere you turn. Long...ten has supplied all these online sites with media for example.
As a matter of fact, your link to those meritline "HQ" disks...are actually long..ten disks...just like shop4tech's. The difference in the plant they were manfauctured. The Meritline long..tens came from Taiwain....while shop4tech's came from Hong Kong. Early results show the Taiwain Long..tens to be of better quality...however, they are still incompatible with the majority of burners @ 4x burn speed, including the Sony's.
See the "HQ from Meritline" post for more details.
Also the "EXTREME" DVD's are Long...ten's too....check this link.

I'd bet anything...all these 4x disks with these whacky names are one of three disks. The Long..tens..Princo, or LD. None of which will get you consistent 4x burns, and none of which will keep you coasterless. That's why they are so cheap...your paying for 2x LOW QUALITY media...for all that...you can spend the same and get 2x High Quality Optodisks or Bealls. -
Personally I cant see the 8X burners and media do too well. That translates into a 75x cd-rom or something like that. I'll stay with my 4x...15 minutes a disc is fine by me.

Just checked at pricewatch and now I see that http://www.allmediaoutlet.com is selling 1x princo DVD-R at $64 for a pack of 100 or $0.64 each. I may try a sample of these to see if they work on my Panasonic E50 recorder.
-
Then why do Ridata (Ritek) seem to be staying the same or going slightly up in price?
-
Princo white tops do work on the Panasonic E50, I use them myself. In fact I had one that had an error when I tried to burn it in my Pioneer A05, but I was still able to use it in my Panasonic, full two hour burn. Make sure you get the ones with NO logo, as the ones with the logo you can have problems with over 4 gig.

I noticed that Riteks are going down in price also. I just picked up a 100 pack of G03s for only $116.00 from http://www.precisioncddvd.com! About a month ago, the G03 were no where to be found or about $130 for a 100 pack. Hope the prices keep dropping!

I went to precisioncddvd.com, but I can't see anything on their site about their location. Where are they located and/or from where do they ship?
(I'm still hoping that I might be able to find a decent media vendor *NOT* located in California.) -
Ritek ink doesnt come in jugs but it comes in 50 gal drums. I just ordered one and I plan on swimming in it...
I have heard that Ritek has cut production a bit. I don't know why but when the demand is high and the supply is low than prices go up.
