  1. i just got a couple of vcds, that playback really good on my pc, however when i try to play it on my philips 711 standalone i get a rolling picture and its in black and white

from what ive read(dont know if this is correct) it seems to be an issue wiht pal/ ntsc settings

    my questions are these,
    a. if this is true, how do i adjust the settings on my dvd (exact instructions) -ive played with the remote but cant find anything),
    b. how do i know what format the movies are in/ what format i need to play on my dvd (is it dvd dependent or tv dependend)
    c. if needed, is there a way to convert pal-> ntsc or vice-versa, and how long does it take
    d. if its not a pal/ntsc issue, then whats the problem

i know it seems like im asking a lot, but i really need help, i know there are tutorials and guides on this site -- many of which i got thsi information from, but i think thats its a hardware-specific issue

if you dont have time to post a reply, then can you email me at xeretni@hotmail.com with help

    thanks

  2. This is an issue with PAL and NTSC.

On the Philips DVD711 you can change the settings but you also need a TV that can play back that format. To change to NTSC or PAL check your manual as I cant remember exactly what to do but it says it in there.

If you still have problems then you can re-encode them using software like TMPGEnc but this takes a while. See the left hand bar of this site to find out how if needed.

  3. For change de format on dvd reproducer you can follow this steps :

    1) Turn off dvd
    2) Press to the same time both keys (advance tracks and stop) and then turn on the dvd.
In this moment appear on the dvd display the format type setting for default (PAL or NTSC) and you have 3 seconds for change the format pressing the advance keys.

The format tv and dvd, must be setting equal !

  4. mofo10 -- how in the world did you know about that, any other philiips dvd tricks you know -- thanks

as i wrote, thaks for showing how to switch the stetings, but my tv is in the opposite format as the dvd (when i switch to the non-default setting, the picture rolls without a dvd in it)

question is: is it possible to change tv settings (i have a sanyo, going to check the model number later if it can be done -- dont want to disconnect everything for nothing) OR do i have to try and swith settings on the vcd itself (reburn) -- if it is that possible

  5. You can change the tv format .... but in general is automatic ?¿

In the manual of your tv must be the explanation, but if the both format are the same you would be not have problem.

    Regards !
