  1. Another question here. Using VirtualDub, have Windows ME and won't be able to upgrade anytime soon, so I heard that WinME doesn't recognize NTFS drives. Therefore on my hd the file size limit is 4gb. In record mode, virtual dub crashes once it reaches the 4gb limit (I got about 9mins 15 secs of video) and said AVIoutput error. Then I fixed that, I went into the menu and selected to instruct virtdub to stop the capture at 3.8gb, which it did the next time around (no crash). However, would there be a way to tell it to start a new capture automatically once it completes each 3.8 gb, or does it need to be done manually? The reason I ask is because I saw there is a selection "auto-increment file name after each capture?" or something like that and thought maybe that's what it meant. But I couldn't seem to get it and had to manually start new captures.

What you want is multi-segment capture. The option is near auto-increment. Use the non-compatibility settings with this option. Check the help in vdub (F1).
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

    Hey coffeecup-sf

If you are on a budget, give this program a look. There is a 'demo'

    http://www.paragon-gmbh.com/f_ntfs.htm

Demo reads NTFS - Full version will READ/WRITE NTFS - or so they say. Never have the need for this but I guess someone has since it was made !

  4. Ok thanks guys, just got home so I'll have a look at it a little bit later.

GL99, ok I'll check into the auto-increment. Glad to hear it is an option.

Hey Holistic, I'll definately check out that one. Actually however, I believe my hd is not ntfs but is fat32, so don't know how mine will do with it.

    coffeecup-sf , FYI
The program i linked you to will allow win9x/ME machines to READ/WRITE to NTFS file structure. NTFS is not native to win9x/ME operating systems and will not be seen.

The program should allow you to format a drive in NTFS to make use of its' ability to store large files (ie: greater than 4Gb)

BUT (big bold but) I don't know how video capture programs running under winME will react to NTFS.

    Was just offering another solution.
