  1. I have a bunch of old VHS tapes of "Christmas Past" when my kids were small. I have been capturing only certain portions of those tapes via Nero as AVI files on my computer (VHS player hooked to Sony MINIDV camcorder to computer). Because I am picking and choosing only portions of the VHS tape, for Christmas 1989 and 1990 I end up with about 55 AVI files. I am converting the AVI to MPEG-2 using TMPGE. However I can't seem to get the batch processing to work in TMPGE so I am converting each file individually which is time consuming (in TMPGE, I can add numerous files to the batch list but when I choose run it only converts the first one). When I have all my files in MPEG-2, I plan to edit in Nero adding fade-outs between files, chapter stops and a menu. I will then burn to a DVD using Nero. Since I am new to all this, can I have your opinions on what I am doing and what you might do differently. This forum has been and continues to be a great resource.
    Thanks,
    Bruce

  2. Wow, for your first post, it looks like you did your homework.

Soundslike your on the right track.

I can't help you with Nero or TMPGE but try this link

    TMPGE Batch
    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=127617&highlight=tmpge+batch

I found it in the handy search at the top of this page.
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.

  3. I would seriously suggest doing all your editing whilts the files are in avi format. get a decent editing app (there are loads to choose from) or if all you want to do is cut and join, the use virtualdub. Once you have completed your editing, save it as a single large avi and then encode to mpeg.

Mpeg was never intended to be an editable format. Mpeg editors do exist but all but the most expensive have problems, especially audio sync issues, and most do not allow frame accurate cutting.

Edit the avi's, it is a lot easier.
