  2. If I understand you correctly, you have footage burned to DVD that you want to use for a new DVD with new content, correct?

Easy, use one of the freeware DVD rippers and rip the whole DVD to your hard drive. You can then use the mpeg2 files (vob) for your new DVD. Or U can even copy the files right of the DVD because the DVD is not encrypted. DVD's are nothing more than mpeg2 files with audio tracks in various formats or multiple formats, and of course menus to navigate to the various mpeg2 files.

  3. er.. let me see if i understanded
1st i have to rip the dvd to my HD. i usually use dvd decrypter. then i'll get like 4 vob files from the full dvd.
then i have the mpeg2 file with the footage that i want to use with the new "version" of the dvd.
i can author this new mpeg2 file with the vob's from the 1st dvd? is that? i guess i'm missing some pass...

  4. What do you use to author? Ideally you don't want to recompress the vob files. Best way is to produce the interview the way you want, then in your DVD authoring app add the encoded interview then drop the vob files in the compilation as well, no re-code of the original dvd material.

"then i'll get like 4 vob files from the full dvd. "
yes, that is correct. These are the files you will drop into your DVD authoring software. If you have a software DVD player installed you should be able to double click the vob files and view them.
