Can't Convert Movie

help please...we got a movie down but lost it at 97%...but all the film is there just the out-takes missing ,so we tried it as it was.....it won't play in windows media player we get class not registered message....and it won't convert in tmpg...locks up...the file is..DVDRip.XviD-DVL.avi.....is there anything i can do to convert to mpeg ..?...thnx

open avi in virtualdub and scan for bad frames. then do a direct stream copy of the audio and video and save as a new avi.
