Just saw this Digital Research 4X DVD+ Writer on sale at Best Buy for $149. I've searched the list of writers and could not find out much info. about it. Their website says it's made by I/OMagic. Also, are OEM version burners difficult to install versus Retail versions? If not, maybe I should just buy a NEC 1300 OEM. Any help will be much appreciated, thanks!!!

  2. The Digital Rearch model is definitely an OEM drive of the NEC ND-1100A. Personally I'd avoid Digital Research, I/O Magic, and Hi-Val rebates at any cost since they are run by the same management and have a reputation of not paying rebate on time. If you have installed a CD burner before, there is no real advantage of buying a retail box since most included softwares are not worth much.

Right now you can get an NEC ND-1300A for less than $160 online, why pay more for an ND-1100A and taking a risk of not getting the rebate back? Just my two cents.

Thanks for the help Synergy! I've decided to just order the NEC 1300 OEM online, probably from Newegg. Just got to decide now what burning program to purchase if I go with OEM. I know that the NEC 1300 can be purchased with Roxio Basic, but I wonder if it would be worth it to go purchase the new NERO 6? Thanks again
