I am a new beginner to dv authoring. I read that dedicating a separate hard drive is important for dv editing. Can anyone recommend how many GB is good for the second drive. I will just be editing dv from my camcorder and then burning to a dvd.

At least 120GB.

Definitely 120GB, at least. Prices are around $1 a Gig or less, so buy big so you don't have to worry about filling it up.

Yeah, I'd say 120GB is a good place to start, although depending on the codecs being used and the level of initial compression, you might be able to get away with 80GB.
I, personally am using a striped raid with 2 - 120GB drives, giving me a total of 240GB. -
I hae just installed a second hard drive.
Can some advise how to get it to show in "my Computer" and then to format it.
Cheers.

120Gb is a good size for DV. Suggest 7200rpm. Video from a DV camcorder is 13.5Gb per hour. By the time you make edit copys and temp files you can fill a disk very quickly. Beware of drives over 120Gb, many even recent motherboards bios cannot take them.
