Does anyone have or know of a guide for Vegas Video 4? I'm using the trial and I'm trying to figure out how to cut out parts of my DV file and i'm having the hardest time. I'm used to the format that MyFlix has but that's Mpeg1 cutting so i can't use that. So if anyone has a guide or knows of a guide it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

if the trial version doesn't include the User Manual, you can download it from the Sonic Foundry website, under Support.

honestly, I find that manual solves most of my problems. otherwise, check the Vegas forum at Sonic Foundry's website, and also the Vegas video forum at Creative Cow.

i've looked at the included help file within vegas and found nothing to help me. maybe i'm just not searching right. but what i'm looking for is a way to go frame by frame and set frame in and frame out points and then just line up the segments that i cut out one at a time. it's like that in ulead videostudio 7 but i don't like how that program is as it seems to crash a lot in rendering at the end. if anyone who knows how to use vegas can help me with this, maybe i'm just overlooking something but if someone can tell me how to do what i want to do it would help me a lot. thanks.

    check the manual:

    page 57: Frame-by-Frame cursor movement

    page 261: Frame numbers

also, remember that you don't have to cut your footage - just drag the beginning of your clip so it starts where you want it, then pull the whole clip up to butt up next to the previous - once you render, everything will be cool.

sorry if this doesn't help as much - most of my stuff in Vegas so far has been making 30 second bumpers for intro movies and stuff, so I usually use Virtualdub to do my edits on my footage first, then pull that into Vegas....

i really appreciate your help housepig. you seem to know what you're talking about. i downloaded the manual and skimmed through it but i still haven't seen anything about what i want.

but anyways. what do you mean by i don't REALLY have to cut footage and that i can just drag it? For example if i have a capture of a tv show in DV format i need to cut out 2 sets of commercials how would i do that? sorry if i'm bugging you about this but i'm really having a hard time understanding how to do it in this program but i've heard such great things about it that maybe i'm just overlooking something that's really simple. thanks again.

put your cursor (the white line) over the start point and hit the "S" key ..

put your cursor (the white line) over the end point and hit the "S" key

the "S" key is a Split .. delete between the start and end point (put your mouse on the part you want to delete and hit "delete") , slide the part thats left - together .. if you have ripple on -- it will do it for you ..

use the arrow keys to move the "white edit line" or

use your number keys to go forward / backwards frame by frame or

"J" will move back like a shuttle , "L" will move forward like a shuttle , "K" will pause like a shuttle ..

expand the time line if seems to move so many frames at a time for you ..

  7. Drag the clip to your time line twice. Drag the front & back to your desire in and out point. Said 1 clip before the commercial, same clip after the commercial. Hope this will help.

    Rgds.
