    YEP,
I don't want to seem insulting or like I am trying to discourage you, as we all have to start somewhere and it is alot of fun! BUT, perhaps you really should learn the very basics like "what these symbols mean: DVD -R, DVD -RW, DVD +R, DVD +RW" and maybe alot more before you jump into buying a burner!

I know I was on this site for months reading and learning stuff before I bought my burner, and then I was totally confused and frustrated when it came and I started trying to make my first few DVDS!
I had made Vcds that were pretty good, and had learned alot about the DVD burners.
Of course now there are some pretty simple progams to use like Tmpgenc DVD Author that works very well with nearly no knowledge required. Didn't have that when I started
But I was kinda ticked when the price of the burner dropped $20 before I even had the first disk burned

Good luck, hang in there, and do lots of reading here.

  4. fitch,

The Official DVD FAQ is a good place to start learning about the various writable DVD formats.
