  1. Hi,

I'm makeing a VCD out of a hi-8 tape, it turned out no sound.

First I used the Dazzle Digital Video Creater (DVC80) to convert, the VCD quality was so poor, and, of cause, no sound, that I scrap it.

Then I used a DV camcorder (it has analog input) to record into DV, the source was from the S-video of a Sony Hi-8 camcorder, and captured this DV into PC, converted it to MPEG1, made a VCD, the quality is good, but still no sound.

Can anyone figure out what is wrong? your input is greatly appreciated.

    Mike

Dude, S-video is video only. Use the audio output to put audio into your computer from your camera.
    Hello.

  3. I used the DV-camcorder to record the Hi-8 tape into DV format, the DV manual said using S-video to connect with Analog camcorder, there is no seperate audio input for DV-camcorder.

Another option is to record the Hi-8 tape into VHS tape, then use VCR A/V output into DV-comcorder, but one extra step will degrade the quality.

    Any more suggestion?

What camera are you using, and how is it converting it to DV?
    Hello.

  5. The hi-8 camcorder is Sony, the DV camcorder is Sharp.

The Sharp DV camcorder has the feature to record from a analog input source, set the DV into recording mode, and set the source from analog input, connecting DV with a analog device (Analog camcorder, VCR ... ) through S-video or A/V cable, start to record.

I think you are saying the camcorder with the S-video output also has an audio output at the same time?
    Hello.

...check again. S-video is purely video, so there should be another set (probably RCA L-R, or the mini-jack type) of input ports for audio.
