Has anyone sucesffuly ripped the Mallrats VOB files off the DVD? I'm using SmartRipper and it always gives a Read Error when I try to rip. Then I try again (starting the rip all over) and sometimes it would rip all the VOB files fine, but later I come to discover there were bad frames ripped - there was 'garbage noise blocks' where there shouldn't be. I had tried two different DVDs of Mallrats and results are the same. Any ideas?

have you tried it on a different computer all together? cause that would tell you for sure whether it is some crazy fluke with the malrats dvd or somethin on your comp causein the error...

Here i waz thinkin only i had done something wrong wit ripping MallRats.
I've done only about a dozen and a half dvd backupz and only had major probz with Close Encounters, Point Break,
and Mallrats (even Clerks, was a snap to do).
I've tried three different ripping appz, three different encoderz, and still got the same error. Well, its not really an error, the encode goes fine but it rippz (to vcd or svcd)the vob's with the director's commentary on the bottom right hand corner.
The only thing i could do was to back it up to divx, slight audio synch prob, but its ready to svcd if i want to, yet i got it on one cdr as high quality divx at 480x480.
Ill try it again this weekend with all the new versions of all da ripping appz, i.e. easy2svcd, dvdX, etc...

oh yeah, btw,
just tried it in two different dvd-rom drivez in two different computers too. and same thing... -
i think what the problem is that the directors commentary is embedded in with the movie, and when you watch the raw vob files through powerdvd, it looks all screwed up. i have the dvdrip on my harddrive and it does this. but when i watch it through ravisent cimester or cinematograph (as a regular dvd played off my hdd, with menu's and such) it looks just fine.
i remember when i was first ripping it with vobdec, it would only rip like 750mb of a 1gig vob file. but i thought it was messing up or something, and wound up ripping the complete file through cladvd.. mistake.. i think you have to remove multiangle in order to get it to just rip the movie itself..
so if anyone knows of a way to remove multi-angle from a vob file, please let me know. by the way, i have all the files from the original dvd disc, but i dont have the actual disc.

point taken jeex,
well,
i tried ripping (direct from dvd and from copied vob's on h.drive, and did get the same prob of ripping only one vob then it gets stuck...) it and still the same thing.
Was able to convert it to vcd/svcd though. using two methods.
