  1. I had Windows ME before, and had no trouble viewing VCD's, and now have Windows XP and Windows Media Player 8, and they dont allow me to view them.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  2. Open Media Player 8. Choose Mpegav folder. List all file types. Then choose the .dat file. That should do it.

  3. No, that doesnt work.
When you open WMP and click on file, then open, then MPEGAVI, it just opens the AVESEQ01 files, and then says " incorrect function"
You cant list all file types with XP

Windows XP is like mac os x, colorfull and useless. VCD's with the wmp gui dont seem to work, ive tested all. maybe a new vcd player may show up for xp format. dont do xp until they release a second edition with the bugs worked out!

    ...yes, but it's so... COLORFUL!

Basically, the best you can hope for with MS products (i.e. Media Player) is to play DVD's, and that is only possible by installing other codecs (like another player)!

    Useless.

  6. well, I have xp professional, and do as I stated above--it works for me. I have about 20 vcd's, and they play fine. Good luck with your bug/problem.

If you're desperate, copy the VCD to your computer using CDRWIN/Fireburner and use VCDGear to convert BIN -> MPG.
I can confirm that works. I never watch VCDs on my computer (gots a DVD player for that =).

I'm not sure what's error since I'm too lazy to check right now.... =P

  9. Thanks Jeomite,
No not desperate, but want to watch VCDs on XP, all the time.
So, are you up for the challenge?
Can you work it out for me ?
Its got to be something simple...
Do you want to email me ?
    Great.
    Cheers

  10. The VCD you are speaking of might be an SVCD?? perhaps try using a third-party DVD player software that will play SVCDs. That might work. I know WinDVD Pro 3.1 works.

  11. My autoplay is on. I think the svcd angle suggested by the previous writer might be the answer?? The only other think I can think of...is to try to play it in Nero. I think there is play option under the Vcd template.
