  1. I was hoping someone can answer some questions regarding the Panny DMR-80 I have on order.

I plan to archive TV Shows from Direct TV using the Hard drive, then to DVD-R. What would you recommend for the settings to fit as many shows on the DVD-r?

Also, I plan on transferring my Mini-DV tapes to DVD-R via S-Video cable.

Will I be able to play DVD-Ram rewritable discs on other DVD players?

Any suggestions would be very helpful.

    Thanks,

    Bob

  2. I have a panasonic dmr-hs2 and archive things from directv to dvd-r. I don't like to put more than 2 hours on 1 disc if I can help it ( for better quality ). So I usually record to the hard drive at xp speed ( 1 hour per dvd-r ). Then edit out what I don't want. If it's less than 2 hours I dub to dvd-r at fr speed. To get the most info on the disc. If something really important - family videos - I dub with 1 hour per disc, at xp speed. Quality is great at this setting.

Have not used the s-video, so no help there.

Dvd-ram will only play on Dvd-ram compatible machines. If you have a pc, it will also play on dvd-r/rw ram capable drives.

This website is devoted to the panasonic dmr-hs2 but has a lot of things that may help you

    Thanks for the quick response!

Are DVD-Ram compatible machines considered models within the past 2 years? I would like to keep rewriting on the DVD-Ram and play on my Go Video player occasionally!
